What is Whole Grain?
Whole grain refers to the grain that has not been refined. A whole grain comprises of 3 parts:
- Bran – the outer layer of the kernel includes concentrated amounts of several nutrients
- Endosperm – Serves as the main energy storehouse for the plant
- Germ is the smallest part of the grain that is packed with nutrients.
Why should I eat whole grain oats?
Whole grain in general have nutritional advantages. In particular, whole grain oats supply soluble fiber. Soluble fiber in general prolongs stomach emptying time so that the sugar is released and absorbed more slowly.
